Default clutch cables braking

i recently purchased a 1991 lx 5.0 with a manual tranny. the boy that i bought it from had some issues one of which, is the car keeps snapping the clutch cable. right in the middle. the car has headers and seems like the cable is getting so hot that it is snapping. is this possible? and can some kind of heat shielding help this? like on the spark plug wires.

Yeah, it's the header. Probably because he didn't route it correctly. On a stock cable there should be a bracket about halfway down it, this bolts up somewhere(i forget) to prevent the cable from touching the header.
When you get the new one, just be sure to route it in a way that won't be too extreme, temperature wise. As long as the cable is looping and not kinked, it'll work wherever you put it. If you want you could pick up a package of header wrap, and wrap the cable.

Also to save you some cussing and some money in the near future buy a cable from Maximum Motorsports. They sell OEM cables that do not break like the other aftermarkets. Even the Ford Racing cable is a cheap aftermarket one that will break.

I'm using a Ford OEM cable bought through Ford, no issues here. MM is just going to be more expensive.

I called Ford when my first one broke years ago and was told they couldnt get it. I now realize one up to an 04 would work. I cant remember what the MM costs. Havent looked at the lately since ive been problem free.
