If you get through the tests above and find you need a new tach, you may want to look over the write up I posted about a tach fix I did on my '93. My tach wasn't dead but it may has well of been. Good Luck!

Hi, do the instructions above work for a 90 LX? My tach is pointing straight down when I start the motor? Thanks!

hey all wanna bring back this thread, I tried running a jumper from the tan/yellow behind the instrument cluster to the ignition coil and got nothing. I assume the tach gets its signal from the computer right? what wire goes to the computer?

The tach gets it's signal from the negative wire of the coil. That same wire, however, splices out towards the computer as well, and has a resistor in-line that correctly calibrates the wire for 8 cyl RPM readouts. Bottom right of this image:

just wanted to update this thread, i got the tach working. I swapped out the actual tach part inside the instrument cluster with another one. its out of a 96. Its probly a few hundred rpm off but its good enough for now.
