timing spout issue

Default timing spout issue

I to adjust the timing on my new mustang and read to unplug the timing spout when I found it they had a wire jumper in it is this normal? If not what can I do to fix this

Its normal if they lost the original spout that goes there.

I recommend trying to find a spout from the junk yard or even wiring in a on off switch.

It wont hurt any thing to have a jumper there as that's all the spout really is. You could even put a fuse holder in there . Then the fuse becomes the spout jumper.

The only thing the spout does when it is in is give control of the timing over to the computer. It completes a connection , with it out there is no computer control of timing.

The computer controls timing advance , so you have to remove this in order to set the base timing.

so it sounds like you take the spoutoff, start the motor check and adjust timing, then shut the motor down and reconnect the spout. do I have it right? thank you.
