Hello All & a Happy New Year.!
1995 GT / 5.0 ... New 9mm wires/NGK plugs , MSD coil, cap, rotor, 87-89 octane pump fuel. Not my Daily Driver..
Anyway.. getting a Spark Ping when I Drop the Hammer ..? Never messed w/ the timing, stock @ 10 BTDC, and read advancing it as much as 12-14*..? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Detonation is bad, especially for the sn95 engines.

I wont try to tell you what I think is causing it, but I will tell you some things that can cause it.

Over advanced timing ( run 93 octane fuel )
Carbon build up on the valves/pistons ( Sea foam helps )
Over heated engine ( run a cooler thermostat 185 )
Running to hot a plug .
To lean a mix .
Detonation is caused when the fuel ignites to soon or burns to fast .

Carbon deposits on the pistons or valves tend to get red hot, igniting the fuel before the ignition , hence the term pre ignition knock.

An overly hot plug will have a similar effect. If your running the stock 195 thermostat, try going to a 180 or 185. And go to a cooler running plug.

My suggestion is to simply remove clean your MAF sensor, and replace your air filter.
