Hopefully it just needs a new quadrant...

What is the trick to getting the pawl off of the shaft?
I have everything else (pawl spring, quadrant, quadrant spring) off. It seems there's not enough room between the shaft the pawl is on and the piece of frame net to it to allow the pawl to come off.

Holy crap what a difference! It's like driving a different car - much better now.
That original bracket on the shock tower added so much resistance to the cable I'm amazed the stock cable lasted 200k miles

What does the bracket look like now, or is there none at all?
I installed a similar kit from Brenspeed with a Steeda quadrant, firewall adjuster, and unknown cable (it's working fine... it's just an OE style replacement cable) and I didn't notice any real change in clutch feel other than being able to control release height easily (which is the entire reason I did the job).

No bracket at all. The instructions are specific that the stock bracket is to be removed and not reused. The cable I got from NAPA included a bracket, which really put an awkward bend in the cable - it split open just below the bracket.
The cable is longer than stock, so it doesn't want to rest on/near the header as the stock one did. I have the new cable run through the power steering pump bracket, there's a metal collar on the cable that rests right where the potential rub point is. Don't know if that's what MM intended, but it seems like it'll last another 200k miles - and the pedal effort is greatly reduced.
