Default Hard starting

Ok bought a 95 gt was running ok has 155k so figured needed good tune up at the very least
After few day took at minimum two try's to start. Cranks strong battery good just won't start first try. I hear the pump going
I hooked up a guage at first turn get about 7-8 psi second up to about 20 psi third about 30 psi
Now previous owner told me just installed a new pump. What else can it be.

Fuel filter, or the pump was no good out of the box.

I would expect the pressure to jump right up to about 35psi as soon as you start cranking it. Heck my old 90 fox had a pressure gauge inline and it never even dropped below 30 psi when the engine was off even after sitting all night. Some where your either loosing the pressure or the pump is restricted some how.

Was thinking of disconnecting both the fuel inlet and return lines and blowing air to "clean out". Would that be a good idea??
Also can the fuel pressure regulator be suspect how can I test that.
Thanks

I doubt that the fuel lines are the problem. Its bleeding pressure some where and if yo dont see any visible leaks I cant see the fuel lines as the issue.

It could be the fpr if its stuck in the open position or the regultor spring is broken/worn out and bleeding fuel back to the tank.

There are 3 locations that fuel can escape the rail and bleed the pressure off barring any visual fuel leaks in the lines.

1. you have a leaking injector and its allowing the fuel to bleed off into the cylinder. This would how ever result in poor performance, black smoke, rich indicators or 02 sensor codes.

2. FPR is not holding pressure, either it is always open, has a worn regulator spring, or the diaphram is leaking . Pull vacuum line off of regulator and look for fuel in the line or coming out of the top of the regulator.

3. There is a check valve in the fuel pump that stops the fuel from bleeding back into the tank when not in use.

Back to the fuel pressure regulator. If you dont have any fuel bleeding out of the top into the vacuum line, the best way to test it is to just replace it.
