Default Brake Rebuild-Upgrade

Hi Y'all It's time to redo the brakes on our 86 GT Conv. Without going into a lot of research myself,I'm going to try a "BRAIN Drain" on the group.

What is a good simple parts bin upgrade to the brakes on our car? It doesn't recieve much severe use but I did notice some fade on the last trip to the Ozark Playground(Arkansaw Hwy-7). As the car is completely stock I want to stay with the 4 bolt wheels. I noticed that "Auto Zone " has listed a upgraded rotor and I'm thinking about going to that and crossdrilling it in a pattern similar to that I used on motorcycleswhen disc brakes first became commom. Also going to a better grade of pads and shoes as the ones on the car are OE. It looks like it would be simple enough to fabricate some front brake cooling ductwork from "clothes drier" hose.

Is there a "bolt on " later model caliper with slightly larger bore that will work OK? I do have adjustable bias ,don't remember what company, and that should solve minor piston size differences.Don't really want a all out competition brake job ,just some improvements. Thanks for your input!

You might have to face the fact. That if you really wanna up-grade the brakes. You might have to go with a 5 lug set up. A nice up-grade would be a set of Cobra brakes up front. PLus it's a reason to get new rims.
