Pulsating sound from rear end

Pulsating sound from rear end
For the last few days my car has developed a softish pulsating sound from rear end. The sound only persists when I'm deccelerating (with brakes applied or not), is coming from a rear right side, or maybe rear center'ish, and seems to get louder the slower I go. Appears from 30mph down to 0. Pulse interval seems to be shorter than the time it takes to make full turn of a wheel.
I'm about to take the car to mechanic soon, but maybe it's a common symptom of a common problem, so I checked here first. Is there anything I should inspect extra carefully in the service? Mechanic hasn't been working with Mustangs before.

Thank you, this could really be the case.
I guess I will try to decelerate with handbrake on a few clicks, to see if the sound disappears.
You mean the handbrake pads, right? I have discs in rear as well ('95 GT). Just checking
