302 HO questions

$150 isn't bad for a 351, but getting it into a 65 may be a headache. I hope you plan on making a good living after college because fuel cost and maybe the insurance on a classic could get ugly for you.

It just seems like quite a bit for a college student. I'd stick with what your instructor told you and go with the 302. I don't know what difference it makes if the engine is considered H.O if your planning to rebuild the engine anyhow and your going to run carb. Any 302 block should do and it would be easy to find parts at a salvage yard if money was really tight.

302's piston skirts are a little bit longer, and the later 302's have the 1pc rear main seal...

other than that, yes the earlier block have the better reinforced mains, but thats about it...

only so much you can do with a 2 bolt main
