Default Hey guys I wanna re build and 306 my motor looking for some input

Hey guys, so im back at it over the winter fixing up some issues i had over the summer all and all the first 6 months back on the road after the re build werent so bad, Over the winter im looking to pull my motor and freshen here up a bit and add some goodies, i was think going 306 with a nice head cam setup and some nice pistons for an eventual setup for a super charger, only thing is ive never built a 302 before and was wondering if anybody had any good input on what could put me in the 425 450 hp range at the crank just on the motor, id really appreciate some feed back cause based on that ill start to make some decisions lol

thats asking a lot. then your gonna get the blower and try to pull off 600hp on a stock block

i'd replan honestly. 300-350 on motor is about closer to reality, and easy enuff with just about any typical combo

425/450 out of a 306 is going to require a big cam, high compression, and lots of rpm, which will likely not be street friendly. Going to a 347 or a 351 would make 425/450 a lot easier to obtain in a streetable package. You also need to decide on the blower, because a blower needs relatively low compression, which will hurt your power significantly until you get the blower, making that 425/450 that much harder to obtain NA.

I'd be very cautious about that plan, but wouldnt scrap it entirely

I just set up an internally balanced 306 (stock crank rods pistons) with a mild H/C/I setup. I was really impressed at how much power it had (relative to stroker). If you havent done a tonne of racing, I think you'd be impressed what a stock compression H/C/I setup can give you.

Surf youtube for some racing vids, there are lots of stock bottem ends in the mid 11s @ 120mph. Before I rebuilt the above motor, it had stock E7s, stock cam and bolt ons with a 125 shot and 26x8.5s and ran a 12.06 (the car is gutted and a lot lighter than a full street car)

If you arent hung up on that 400hp number - take a stab at some decent heads and a solid cam (do some homework and maybe get a custom grind?) I think you'll be impressed and have a lot of fun without retarded compression and race gas.

I've built a 420HP 306.
It didn't last long and sure wasn't a street engine at all.
I know the HP because I had it on an engine for a day.
Made a 2950# FOX body go 11.60 at about 4200' air density.......
