Default Some quick C4 questions.

My dad has bought himself a project car. And in his search for parts he came across some C4's and remembered I wanted to auto swap the fox and so he let me know there were some for sale locally. So I start looking and I found this guy,

It appears to be pretty clean, the ad says,

"I have a 1964 C4 transmission for a small block ford. It was rebuilt and I was told it has a shift kit but I never put it in a car. I have been hanging on to it for a project but need it out of my garage. It comes with the bellhousing as well. Asking $250"

Not a C4 expert, any certain years better than others ? Figure I could probably get him down to around $150-$200 possibly ?

Whats a stock C4 handle ? I've got a H/C/I 5.0 nothing crazy so I figure it might be ok for a while until I can afford a PA trans or something similar. Or get brave and try to build it myself.

I'd like to start bracket racing, not going to do that with a T-5 and I prefer autos anyhow. I've got a tremec 3550 I can sell so I'm trying to figure out cost here. Trans, flexplate, shifter, driveshaft ? torque convertor.

Sound like a decent plan to you guys or do you think I'll still toast a stock C4 with the abuse ? Not fond of the rebuilt and shift kit part as god knows who was inside the thing.

you are looking for 70 and up or 26 spline input shaft do not repeat do not use the 24 spline as they will have issues when you start making more power. count the splines on the end of the input shaft if it has 26 then you are good but if it is the year you say it is more then likely a 24

That '64 C-4 will only take about 250HP before it breaks.
Look for a '70 and up C-4, they are much stronger and have a lot of aftermarket parts out there for them.........
