A 1991 Mustang LX. 128k miles, new tires, only problem is it has an oil leak and the transmission makes a whining noise when you drive it. Ideas of what that might be? It would be more of a project car but the guy said he got a quote of $1,300 to fix it I figure I can do it for a lot less. Any input would be great!

oil leak can be either the oil pan gasket, head gaskets, valve cover gaskets or intake manifold valley seals. the trans whining... well, probably needs a rebuild.

My ranger has a 2.3 with a t5 behind it, it makes a while which it has had since I got it which was when I was 16 so 8 years ago. It never got worse, never louder, and never caused issues. Don't know what it is but it may not be anything to worry about

Could be the input bearings causing it.

I had the same whine. I wouldn't count it out just because of a whine. Hell, I drove my car seven years with whining until I totaled it last month.
