Trouble getting warranty work from Ford on TSB 13-6-15
Hey Guys,
I need advice on how to get the dealer to do warranty on something that is clearly documented.
TSB 13-6-15
Some 2011-2014 Mustang vehicles equipped with a
5.0L engine and built on or before 5/1/2013 may
exhibit a MIL illuminated with any combination of
diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301,
P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307,
P0308 and/or P0316. There will be no other DTCs
or drivability symptoms present.
Had this issue on 2/3 and called dealer to let them know. I have a Ford Racing ProCal tool and pulled the DTC's P0300, P0303, and P0304. They told me they where booked for a couple of days and could get me in then. I didn't clear the codes and took time off of work and went to the dealer to get the fix. I brought the TSB as well as told them over the phone about it. I also took pictures of the codes on the tool and showed them. They took the car in the back and then told me they didn't see any codes and that they couldn't do anything for me. WTF!!!!!????? Really! They told me bring it back if it happens again. Well it did it again yesterday P0300 called the dealer and they told me to bring it in. I told them I was at work and would not be able to just leave. Driving to work this morning happened again except much worse. P0300,P0301,P0302,P0303, and P0304. This time the engine had significant loss of power and was running horrible for 2 miles...then all the sudden back to normal.
Problem is the dealer wants me to drop what I'm doing and lose out on a day of wages to have them look at it....I can't do that. Not possible. The interesting part is that the dealer told me that the codes clear after so many key cycles (How many is not known) The codes clear if the issue does not repeat itself. So once I have time to go to the dealer the codes are gone. Even though I have photos to prove the codes are there at one point they will not fix it unless they can see the codes. How is this good customer service?
I'm asking if anyone knows of a good dealer in Western Washington that trusts their customers and will take proof to fix a potentially safe and engine damaging issue?
This car has 13k on it and has been in the shop for a bad pinion seal and now misfires. I'm losing faith in Ford and now I cringe when I see a Ford Service commercial. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance sorry for the large post.

Rather than have them diagnose the problem, ask them if the TSB is relevant to your car. They may be able to look up the VIN and see if it's listed (or they may not). If they can, then they should just perform the TSB and be done with it.

They will provide you with a free rental, atleast my ford dealer does. My engine had a misfiring issue and the check engine light would flash for like 30 seconds and go off and i had to take it in multiple times , eventually the check engine light stayed on even after the misfiring stopped and they replaced the crank position sensor and that fixed the problem for me.

1 IMO you should never go into a dealer. Telling them what to do. Take them the car with the issue. (keep knowledge to yourself) and see what they come up with. Specially if its under warrenty. Most of the mechanics out there are fairly honest guys. ( its the service writers that are the weak links) Since most of the dealers I have worked at over the years they get there bonuses based on what work they can upsell and/or get repaired 1st time. Alot think if you come in with specific info and you already know fix, that your trying to scam the shop. As per check engine lite all depends on what code is up on how long if it will reset or clear itself, some do some dont. have to litereally check for your specific year. Some Random misfire codes (300's) actually will clear the next ignition cycle if they are not seen. if it something that is duplicatable what is cause it if it doesnt do it every day. Like weather conditions, sitting over a few days, Hot/cold etc. Do alittle basic diagnosis like that yourself. then take it back into a dealer (may want to try a different one since it sounds like that one maybe ******). Good luck hopefully you'll get it corrected soon.

Yeah, this is the 2nd time my 2.5 week old 14 mustang GT was at the dealer for the same thing...the a/c. Now they are keeping it overnight, but they did provide a car for me to drive until my Mustang is repaired. Each time, I too had to take off from work using my vacation leave. I appreciate the loaner, but like doctors, the dealerships feel nobody works during the day.
