Default radio buzz/hum

Just noticed this last week. I will hear some buzz/hum coming from the radio/speakers and be dependent on RPM. I have 2 amps and a 10" sub in the trunk with BA 5x7 speakers in my doors and rear deck (non mach stereo).

Ive read it could be a possible ground problem (ground loop?), the alternator starting to go bad (50K mi on the car...)?

Any other possible problems to look into? I have my RCA cables running on the oppostie side of the car as the power cables for the amps.

I'll look into this on lunch and tonight after work.

Thanks Guys!
Dean

RPM changing whine... check the alternator. Most likely an open phase. If that is the case, you can see it plainly if you put an oscilloscope on one of the accessory plugs.

So dummy that down a bit?...I don't have an oscilliscope at my disposal lol Is this a sign the alternator is going bad?

I have to move tomorrow and drive 14hrs to KY from Boston...

Also it's not there ALL the time. It seems to come and go, all the wires to the amps are still tight, grounds for each amp are grounded to same location and are tight. I didn't know what would be other common problems of this. I googled it and also heard of alternator

When you wired your amp did you run the RCA's along the same side as the power cable? If so, swap it to the other side of the car. Make sure you have no bare wires on the HU also that may be touching something if the RCA relocate doesn't fix it.

well long time no post, since this happened I had golf clubs in the back and I was thinking MAYBE those were causing interference....took them out and the buzz went away for the past month or so. Well now It came back, and it's not all the time either. It will do it mid drive home from work, then I'll get home and shut the car off and turn it on again...nothing, no buzz...

I'm going to look at the back of the CD player this weekend to see if there is anything loose. My RCA cables are run down the opposite side of the Power and Ground cables...

It will sometimes also pulsate with my blinker as well lol

EDIT:
It will/has done it either with the radio or CD or Ipod mode on...(HU has built in IPod wire)
