Question Crazy radio problem

I recently bought a 01 GT Convertible. The factory radios CD player does not work (I knew that going in) and shows error message. The radio itself has turned off on its own a few times but nothing more. Last week I installed a new Steeda shifter, test drove to make sure I had it right then parked it for a week (away on business). When I started the car when I got back I got a horrible noise coming from the speakers. The only thing I can relate it to is heavy base in short bursts. It happens while starting the car with the radio turned on and off and only happens when I first start the car, once running it stops. I finally pulled the fuse and that stopped it. Anyone ever have this happen to them? Could the new shifter install have done something? Craziest thing I've experienced with car audio........
