Advice wanted; Thinking of buying a 65-68 Mustang!
I've wanted an older Mustang since I was about 10, which is when they came out!
I've finally reached a point in my life where I can afford one for a toy (and for an investment) but would like a few pointers!
My ideal would be a 67 Mustang Fastback GT. I've also found out that they seem to be in high demand and short supply. I can only afford about $15K, and I want one that's nice.
So I've decided that a 65-66 GT coupe would be my second choice. Mostly because I like them too and there seems to be a lot more of them around.
What should I be looking for in that price range and what should I try to avoid at all costs? Like the vinyl top seems to be real common on these. I'm not crazy about them, but are they a problem and do they hurt the value? How about an automatic? I'm fine with that, does it hurt the value though? The ones I've looked at have been stone stock, including the rally wheels, fog lights, disc brakes in front, etc. That's the way I like them. One is just about perfect, and even has factory air that works, but he wants $17K...., too much?
I appreciate any advice or comments, but be gentle....., I'm new at this!

RE: Advice wanted; Thinking of buying a 65-68 Mustang!
where do you live and i maybe able to hook you up with a 67 shelby, or just a 67 gt, my advice, though, would be get one that needs restoring, you wanted one for a toy right? make sure most every thing is there, motor interior is about all you need if you want to restore one for under 15k, the guy that wants to sell, 17 k isn't bad but it really depends what he put in it too.... is it in mint condition, paint job good, nothing wrong with interior as far as rip in the seats cracks in the dashboard etc. umm... is the engine in good running condition? is it nice and clean under the hood? does anything leak? those are the things that i look for when looking at an oldr model stang, i have a 65 it's getting restored at the moment, i can give you a name it need be, just email me at johnwsix@bellsouth.net hope i was of some help!!

RE: Advice wanted; Thinking of buying a 65-68 Mustang!
I bought my 67 FB 24 yrs ago, actually traded a 69 Galaxie XL for it. The stang was only a collection of parts but was drivable in a week. My ole man was a body man and when I was at Ft Benning for basic training he painted it. I went to the garage and when I turned on the light I noticed something strange, the light reflected off the car. Holy sh*t he painted it. Now almost 23 yrs later I am going to redo it, am thinking of a medium blue metallic. The motor is coming out to sandblast and repaint it and the engine bay, the 289 might go in but I do have a 64 390 from a Marauder. With alum heads and intake it shouldnt weigh much more than a 289. My point is they are all money pits but that is as much fun as driving them.
