Radio holes in dash-reproduction radios
The original radio is gone from my car-it has a am/fm cassette player from the 1980s in the dash-when I took off the cover plate,I see the old original holes and the two holes that the current radio uses for the ***** to come through.I want to put in a original radio or one off those new ones that look "old"-how do I patch the holes that where drilled in the 80s?
I have seen a plastic and metal botched dash piece in catologs-has any one used this does it look and fit well?
Any help getting the 2 drilled holes patched is appreciated. Thanks Scott
also how are those reproduction radios-old look new power and technology?

RE: Radio holes in dash-reproduction radios
those radios your speaking of are garbage if you like good sound quality and reliability. I had one i paid 200 bucks for and it quit after not even a year
I went with a radio delete plate and put a good Cd player in the glovebox
I also have the extra holes some jerkoff put in to allow a more modern radio.
you can buy the weld on plates but you have to cut the old metal out... weld the new one in and grind it down and make it look good and then repaint your dash.
I bought a cheapo radio delete plate and since i inherited the car from my dad and he was known as " moose" i put his name on it

RE: Radio holes in dash-reproduction radios
thanks for the heads up on the "garbage radio"
I liked what you did with the "moose" plate
sounds like a lot of work (welding, sanding, painting)to get rid of two holes, but I guess thats the only way
maybe I will cut it wide open and put a in dash cd single disc player-The other problem is there is no place to put speakers in the back of my car-it is a convertible-have you ever tried/heard the kick panel speakers they sell ? I am sure they sound like crap too....

yep, convertibles suck for speakers in the rear. There is absolutly NOWHERE. The kick panel speakers suck, no matter what kind of speakers you have there. IT just doesn't get loud enough. My dad bought two jenson speakers. They are in a plastic little box, and take up little room. They just sit in the floor board. +1 with the stereos. my dad bought a $230 custom autosound for his vert, and the thing burned up.
