The sequential turn signals were the first thing I fixed when I got the 68 cougar. To hell with safety issues, I wanted sequential turn signals, even if only to stand back and admire them while the car was stuck in a ditch off the side of the road. I still have the little motorized controller gizmo for the lights... amazed it still works.

yeah, do what you want, you could build an LED setup that kind of lights the outside up first, and then the inside, and when they switch the outsides fade then the insides, all in sequence down to the final light, that'd be cool. but do what you want. I think i've also seen some heat resistant tail light lenses made specifically for the three bulb set up but I could be wrong.
It could look something like this, I know it's not photoshop but you get the idea.

Just had a thought from the photo, it seems the car is jumping up and down on left side to indicate left. Im sure lots of ricers will love to install hydraulics that jump up and down a particular side of the car to indicate? Ooh they can even have the rear jumping as the car brakes....

Back in the 80s when I was actually driving my cougar, I went through 3 or 4 of those mechanical thingsy. Still have 3 of them layin around here. They would work for about two minutes, sometimes an hour. Just long enough for me to get into town and get a ticket for no turn signals.. I am goin digital, because its my car and I dont want it original. I want it operational.
