That sucker must have been on the bottom of a lake. The casting number doesn't add up to it being a 289 from 1965 or newer. Look at the oil cap position. A 289 has it in the valve cover.

Could be 260, but if the heads actually have 289, then they are probably early 289s. The front inlet rear oulet crankcase vent sytem was used through 1964, my 64 Falcon had the same system, had heads with 289 on them, but was a 260. The only way to be certain, if the tag isn't still under either the coil hold down or the temperature sender is the measure the bore. If they are 289s they are the early "5 bolt" blocks and depending on date codes could be valuble to someone restoring and early 64 1/2 Mustang or Falcon/Comet or Fairlane from that era.

Looks like an early 289!
Under the coil, on the intake manifold is 289 followed by C3AE-9425.
I would have to expect that since the heads and intake are both stamped with 289....well it should be.
