Default 65 Mustang Question

I have recently aquired a 65 mustang coupe in pretty good condition. It only needs a few things and it should be ready to cruise around. It needs a new radiator, carburetor, and a new gas tank. There is also a problem with the emergency brake and that is the reason for my post. I am not a car expert by any means. The whole system seems to be locked up or jammed. Excuse my terminology. You cannot even engage the emergency brake at all. You can't budge it. Any ideas or thought to what I should check first. I am new to this whole "new world" so be easy on me!

So you can't even pull it up at all? Does it rotate even a little? Could be the cable or the rod is frozen in the shaft.

It does rotate, but you cannot pull it more than an inch.

Sounds like the cable. You need to get up underneath it and find out where it is binding at.

Get under the car and oil the brake cable from the brakes to the firewall. Paying particluar attention to the guides and friction points. I would also pull the rear drums and shoes and make sure the all the internals are working freely. With the shoes off you should work on the rest of the e-brake cables to make sure they are working freely. You can also spray some lubricant into the e-brake assembly under the dash.

Put new emergency brake cables in it, a common problem.
