66 flywheel ?
I have a puzzling question that maybe someone on this forum can answer. In the process of rebuilding my 289 with a C4, I noticed the teeth on the flywheel were ragged and the flywheel needs to be replaced. All the literature, catalogs, etc I see two flywheels one with 157 teeth and one with 164 teeth... here's the question, mine has 161 teeth and I have counted over and over and still get the same thing... any ideas why this is so? Also, it measures 13.25" across.
I want to order the right one and am confused... any help is appreciated. Anyone know the correct one and its part number?

RE: 66 flywheel ?
An automatic transmission uses a flexplate, not a flywheel. Semantics aside, the correct one for your application is a 157 tooth. I've never heard of a 161 tooth flexplate, so that is new to me.

You don't need a part # Go to parts store and ask for a new flexplate for your engine/tranny/year
It will have 157 teeth, OEM type replacement $30-$40, no big deal.
You counted wrong twice.

RE: 66 flywheel ?
I have to believe you all are right, I counted wrong... more than once. This weekend I ordered one and the guy at the parts store (who still knows how to look in the books) said the one I needed was 157 teeth. so I have to assume for some reason I double counted. Appreciate the feedback , it makes me feel better hearing from others that 157 was what I needed. thanks again.
