Default AOD in 1969 Mustang

I need expert help!! I have a AOD from late 90' model thunderbird w/ 5.0 l motor. Will this work with my 1969 302? What about the computer? My mustang has a C4 trans and i want either a 5 speed or AOD. A

Anyone made this swap and which should I go for? AOD is free and I likely would put 3.70 or lower gearing in 8" rear end.

All suggestions and advice appreciated.

If its an AODE, you need electronics to control it. Bauman Engineering comes to mind. A plain AOD does not need any.
You will need a 28oz balance flywheel for your 302, not the 50oz that came with a 5.0.
There are other swap parts you will need for your classic, but it is doable and not a bad option.

The e stands for electronically controlled and came in sometime in the 90's I think. It was somehow linked up to the ecu of the car and so needs a 'box' to interface with if it is to be used in our early stangs and even later ones that just came with AODs.
They also have a higher ratio 1st gear...so one trick is to use their gearset in an AOD for quicker launches.

I just put a 4R70W trans in a 70 mach1 351C that had a fmx tranny. I used billet and harden tranny parts from Dr. evil trans. A 4R70W trans is stronger than the AOD/AODE. I use a programable Compushift controller and key pad to program my shift points by RPM. With this controller you can change rear gears, tire sizes, any changes you make to your stang and it will compute your formula for you. I'm running 4.30 strange axle case with BFG radial G-Force drag tires. This is a awesome way to have to get a screaming stang with new school trannys. This is Mach 1 is qne fast 351C now.
