Default 5.0l short block is it the same?

its been a while since i posted but im just about to get outa school and antsy to start back on my car. One of the things thats top of the list to do is i need a new short block, i had some mad pistol chatter and one of my cylinders is destroyed, and i was wondering if the newer 302s is the same. I know there very similar but ive heard that the front mounting points are a bit different. I was wondering if anyone has used one of the blocks and could give me some tips.

the balance of the motor is diff you need a conversion flywheel for a 50oz balance, and the 50 harmonic balancer, and a new gear drive for the distributor so the roller cam wont eat it up other than that its a bolt in

Change flywheel/flexplate to 50oz bal, bolt in the short block, It'sa great upgrade!
With the flat tappet breakin problems(low zink content in breakin oils), roller cams will be seen more & more.

Plus steeper ramp angles a roller cam tolerate will give you a noticeable lift in power and torque over a simlar spec flat tapet cam. Less friction and load on the timing gear/chain is also a plus

That engine isnt worth the $$$. Stock rebuilt short block but with cast pistons. Even hyper psitons are an upgrade.

from the sounds of it its the route i wanna take (ilookin fora driver, ill leave the old school blocks for restorers)any one got some links i could take a look at. I know a builder but to get the block and to pay for the rebuild will be like 1500 canadian so if i can find a nice built short block for less and then build up the rest my self, so far, seems like my best bet i think.
