Alternator Help!
Alternator Help 67 mustang.
Little did I know today, I have yet to replace my alternator since I got my mustang 10 years ago. Someone please slap me and call me a Noob, but how do you get the pully and fan off the alternator its self? It looks like I need a hex wrench and I hold on to the nut with a normal wrench. Is this right?

RE: Alternator Help!
There should be two bolts. Lossen the top one, which connects to the engine. Lossen the bottom one, it maybe be blocked a bit by the belt. The bottom bolt is connected to a slider piece that allows for belt adjustment. Undo the bolts, take the wire off (should be one single wire) then swap out your new alternator. I have a chrome alternator, so I use a tire iron wrapped in a towel, I wedge it in there and push the alternator enough to make the belt tight then tighten the bolts down.
I think that about 1/4" movement in the belt is what to shoot for when adjusting the tension on the belts. Put a straight edge between the water pump wheel and the alternator wheel then push down on the belt with a ruler and measure the slack in the belt.

RE: Alternator Help!
Most new / reman Alternators come with the pulley, but if you need to get yours off a hex wrench in the end of the shaft tokeep the thing from turning and a box end wrench on the nut should do the trick.
After 10 years on the car you will probably want to spray the threads down with some penetrating oil tonight.
Also you will probably need a cheater bar on the hex if my past experience is any indication.
