Default RE: Wiring Problem... Help...

The coil terminal is used to supply a full 12 volts to the points/coil during start up.This circuitis obsolete if the car has electronic ignition now.

Points style ignitions use reduced voltage (about 8 volts) when the car is running. This is achieved by the use of a resistor wire or a ballast resistor. These resistors must be removed when running an electronic ignition.

If points style ignitions were constantly subjected to a full 12 volts, the points would not last long at all.

From what I understand, the resistor wire runs from the ignition switch to the coil and I am pretty sure it should be orange.
(with a piece of pink (I think pink) wire spliced into under the dash on at least some year Mustangs)

If the resistor wire has been replaced for one reason or another, there may be a ballast resistor on the firewall.

The condenser you mention is probably the condenser next to the points in the distributor. Some cars used condensers in other positions as well but I don't know if this is the case with your year car or not. The condenser in the distributor is required to run, condensers in other places are not required to run the car.

Wiring diagrams can be tricky, you can't tell how close things are together by looking at a diagram!

The resistor wire is the thick pink wire coming directly out of the back of the ignition switch. I believe it runs all the way to the engine wiring harness connector, but I'm not absolutely sure as mine was (and still is) taped in with the rest of the dash wiring harness.

There should be a wiring harness that has connectors for both of those smallrelay terminals. I can't recall what colors the wires are supposed to be, but the shop manual will have a proper wiring diagram for you.
