brake light switch

RE: brake light switch
Are referring to the small 2-terminal switch that fits onto the master brake cylinder?
On my 64.5 it just screwed into the master brake cylinder (a diaphragm actuates the switch in response to the pressure in the master brake cylinder). When I swapped for a dual bowl cylinder (drum to disc brake conversion kit) I had to purchase an adaptor to add to the new dual bowl cylinder in order to attach the brake light switch.
If I remember correctly the actual brake light switch for a 65 was different than the 64.5 - check some catalogs or call Va Classic Mustang or Mustangs Unlimited tomorrow and ask them if no one else chimes in.

RE: brake light switch
On 65-whatever the switch mounts on the brake pedal itself. If you look under your dash follow the brake pedal up to where the actuator attaches to the pedal(this is the rod that goes through the firewall) there is a "hairpin"style clip that holds the rod & switch on the pedal.Remove this clip and the rob & switch should simply slide off toward the drivers side of the car. Then you can unplug the switch & swap it out.Reinstall in reverse order.Hope this Helps

RE: brake light switch
Here's mine when I had to take it off because my body shop got tons of overspray on it. I'm sure its the same thing/same concept on a 65 as it is on my 69.
Hope it helps, this is the best pic I have.
