RE: new cam...which heads to buy?
Check out the Ford Motorsports aluminum heads. Their prices are right in line with the other aluminums on the market and they are made by FoMoCo/SVO.
A good set of cast iron GT40's are great bang for the buck heads also.

OK. Sounds like the Trickflows and Canfield heads are top notch. So, what intake would you use with those heads? I have an original "Ford" aluminum high rise dual plane intake but I figure that wouldn't work?

Easiest way to choose cam/heads is to figure out what rpm range you need to run in for your setup, then pick a cam or get one ground that is for that application and rpm range, and the manufacturers specify what setups and rpm ranges their heads are for.

the edelbrock performer rpms are great for the price, the port shape and design is very similar to the afr 165's
my engine guy summed it up like this AFR and Edelbrock both make top notch heads, but on the street you wont be able to tell the difference between the 2

RE: new cam...which heads to buy?
now....the MAIN question i have for you all is...will the edelbrock performer rpm's clear the stock or possibly flat top piston? I know the AFR 165's will as per afr. If the edelbrocks will clear and they are cheaper...will then we have a winner!!
Again...here is the cam i bought COMP CAMS Extreme energy 274/286 519/523 110 lobe sep flat tappet....
for this cam...what would be the right choice...a 1.90 or a 2.02 head?

RE: new cam...which heads to buy?
hmm...edelbrock makes the rpm with 1.90 valves that will work WITHOUT notching the pistons
Trickflow makes some heads that have 2.02 valves and DO NOT require notching the pistons AND
AFR makes the 165 with 1.90 valves that DO NOT require notching the pistons
they are all comparable in price...give or take a $100....
which would be best with my cam choice? 274/286 519/523 110 lobe sep

I prefer 1.90 valves in street 302s to keep the velocity up at part throttle. Smaller port + smaller valve. With a bigger cam and heads, turning more rpm then a 2.02 valve would work better. You prolly won't be able to feel the difference between a 1.90 and 2.02 valve though, but it may affect mileage. And the 1.90's have less ptv interference issues.
