Default oil pressure

How much oil pressure you guys think I should have @ idle about 900 rpm?
Im showing 75lbs. On my 347 its a 7qt Canton put in 7 qts added the paxton and it showed 2 quarts shy so put 2 more in now thats 9!
The canton stick that matches the pan reads full now but thats a lot of oil.

Yeah, blowers that are integral with the engine's oiling system have extra passages etc that use some of that oil volume. It'd be like adding a larger pan or a bigger filter. And you have 75psi at idle?? When warm? The rule of thumb is 10psi per 1,000rpm. With a HV pump you may show higher idle pressure, like 20-30psi.

Yeah I was told that at idle you wanted about 20-30 psi...and when running at higher rpms about 50-70psi. 75psi @ idle sounds high, but a new motor with new bearings and such might run higher...I would expect it to come down as the engine breaks in.

10 lbs would be too low @ idle for my tastes, but 75 is rather high (im dealing with that myself). you can use thinner oil and it will bring you down some. 15w40 down to 5w30 brought mine down 5-10 lbs @ idle IIRC.

Thanks 77stang.

I just got back from my machine shop that did the stroker kit.
He told me let it warm up. I havent ran it for long showing that pressure.
Then see if it drops if not either gauge my be wrong(Autometer kinda doubt that) or what you said.
I just filled it up saturday with 9qts 10w 30 , There went $40 lol

Yep, the pressure is going to drop once she warms up.. You can be it will settle at around 30-40 psi at idle if its that high now.. My 351w rebuilt would put out about 67psi when cold.. and now its about 60..
