ok I agree with a lot of these posts but i think Urban has it closest...get involved or get hosed.

what you posted originally might be a simplification but it reads as a mismatch thrown together.

what do you know about the business?
were you referred?
Have you seen any of their other work?

In my experience, one stop resto shops charge a premium for doing some parts of the job well. They are not likely to be the best engine shopand the best paint shop and the best place to get your diff and trans sorted.

Don't walk away from this guy, grab your car and run!!!!! He is ripping you off. I don't want to offend anyone, but thats ALOT of money to sink into a coupe.

Default RE: cost estimate

Hey guys thanks. Kind of an update here. I requested an itemized list and total cost in writing. I called him back after I got the list and pretty much went through every part with him questioning his choices. Well he admitted that 24k was off and he lowered the total cost to 18k after itemizing the list. Ex: He was charging $2200 for a rear end because it was custom made to his exact instructions from the wearhouse. I told him to gank a rear end for 400$ and swap the gear if it isn't correct. thus shaving off $1200. The guy normally builds 8 second dragsters and so his mentality going into my car was wrong.

I was indeed referred by a trusted friend. He was pretty much using the best of the best parts and that's why the price seems outrageous.

So thanks for the head check. Everyones right about "getting involved". It's like a hockey match. You dont just let the other guys run around with the puck you let them know you're there and check them around. I realize speed costs lots of money.

On the plus side I've found a cheaper source of installation and the car is still expected to do high 11's naturally aspirated for just over 15k.
