never mind the cfms. this will be heated discussion. the question was will an anchor of a different 4bbl fit. answer to which all agree: it will, but you don't want that :-)
you'd want a alum 4bbl intake with a new carb

how does every post turn into a cfm discussion ? autolite 4100 with 480cfm is plenty if you turn the engine up to 4500-5000 like stock engines do. weiand and edelbrock suggest 600cfm with their 8124 and performer intakes. a 600cfm carb will give you 10hp more at 6000rpm which a stocker will never see. i prefer a solid throttle response. the one of my 300cfm is _mighty_ the engine does exactly what i tell it to do. i'll go weiand8124 soon, have it lying next to me. i'll go with a 570cfm but only because i got it cheap, otherwise would have picked a 525 demon. but it's all a matter of taste and how you drive. so saying 480 is the only correct option is the same wrong as telling 600cfm is the way to go. we should make a new thread as a sticky where everyone can post his suggestions and everyone can make up his own mind then ... :-)

this is very true. I recommend taking head to a.machine shop, getting the studs pulled and screw in studs inserted and add guide plates. You will be able able to increase rpms without pulling out a stud.
