voltage regulater vs new alternator
66 coupe...6 popper no A/C .... new alternater from auto zoom, same for voltage reg,,,I'm seeing you have to match them? currently 15.5 volts on the battery,,concerned that it's frying my battery,,new batterys not lasting over 2 years or so,,,everything else electrical works ok,,,using volt meter looking for short's etc.....

If your getting 15.5v to the battery, then I think you need a voltage reg. You shouldnt be getting more than 14.1v max. As to frying the battery yes it will. It is also possible to blowup the battery, and trust me that aint pretty.

I installed an alt. from a 87 Town Car with the internal regulator and serpentine belt. I ran a jumper in place of the regulator and wired the alt to the battery. You just need an exciter wire to make it charge properly.
