Default oil pump priming tool?

What size socket do I need to put down the distributor hole to prime the oil pump before I start my engine after 18 years? Auto Zone says they loan them, but don't have one in. They sell for about $20. I've heard a socket duct taped to an extension works just as well, but what size?
Also How long do I run the drill, and at what speed?(low, med, high)

I think it is either 5/16" or 11/32"

1/4" for a 302 and 5/16" for a 351w.

Thanks Fake, but at this point I can only drool over engines that big. Mine is an inline 6, 200ci. I'll keep watching your video for inspiration though!

Is this thing on ?

200 = 5/16"

{Insert sarcasm) I didn't realize trying both sizes wasn't an option and we had to be exact to get a mere thank you {end sarcasm}

I just did this yesterday on my 200, like said its a 5/16 socket. I used a 1/4" drive 5/16" deep socket with a short extension which fit in a 1/2" drill chuck. I read somewhere to run the drill in reverse which I tried and it did not accomplish much. I put it in forward or clockwise and I could feel the resistance of the oil pumping. It did not take long to fill the new filter with oil so I know it must have worked. I also removed the oil pressure sending unit to verify that oil had been pumped that far and it had.

So the direction of the drill should be clockwise or forward.

Dear Mr. Million (et. all)
My most gracious thanks for all your kind and helpful responses. They have been most useful. May I extend my most sincere apologies for not offering thanks at an earlier time, and for requesting specific information pertaining to my particular application. I will remedy these conditions in any further threads I participate in.

Seriously thanks all for the info. as always. I hope to crank this puppy in about a month, so I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row so to speak.
