What is a spreader spacer for a flexplate? are you talking the retainer the crank bolts go into or the plate between the trans housing and engine?

Being thin, you should use it. It spreads the torque evenly. Even with a SFI flexplate being .035 thicker. Make sure you use the flexplate bolts that are .680" and not flywheel bolts that are one inch!
