Default 8.8 & 9in axles?

just had a quick question, is there any difference between a 31 spline axle from a 8.8 rear and one from a 9inch big bearing rear? im looking to pick up just one and im finding alot of good deals on the 8.8 axles but i dont know if they will work for my setup. thanks for the help

Yes, several big differences. The 8.8" uses c-clips to retain the axles and there are groves on the ends machined into the axles. The 9" uses bearings pressed onto the axles with retainers on the hub end that bolt to the housing flanges. The 8.8" bearings are install in the housing ends. They are a completely different design and not interchangable.
