Default Alternator bracket question

I am rebulding a '68 302 to go in my '65 and I got a new alternator bracket and since I didn't remove the original, I can't for the life of me figure out how this one goes on. The only way it seems to line up is with a blind hole on the water pump. I suspect there is supposed to be a hole the backing plate, so I can just drill it out, but I want to make sure before I do that. Has anyone else run into this, and maybe sow me a picture of how it is supposed to go? It is a v belt with no accessories, just the water pump and alternator. Thanks
