Default Carb rebuild

Hi all,
I had black smoke coming from my tail pipe. I was told to rebuild the carb. Now it starts great but seems to still have some smoke. Could this be because there might be some residual from before the rebuild?

What carb/engine combo are you running?

Sounds like you're still having excess fuel issues, but since you rebuilt the carb we can probably rule out a stuck float. Let us know if its smoking at idle or under acceleration. Just some quick thoughts are: idle mixture screws or acceleration pump need adjustment.

I have a 289 with a 2100 autolite. Not sure if its still rich. I just noticed when the water starts coming from the exhaust it has black in it still. Thats why I was thinking it just had some left over from before. I have the car on blocks and Do not have it on the road as I am waiting for the stones to be cleanered off our roads from the winter. Then I was going to take it down for an out of province inspection and wanted to make sure it was running ok so it will pass the emission test.

Are you sure you have to pass an E-Test? I think they limit E-Tests to vehicles less than 20-25 years old, depending where you live.

It might go by state but last time i checked if your car was a 1968 or newer it had to pass emisions so if its a 67 or older it shouldn't be required to pass. Mine doesn't have to pass so my inspection is only 14 dollars.

It strongly depends on where you live. I live in Illinois about 50 miles from Chicago. I don't have to pass emissions or have even have a safety inspection. If I lived 20 miles closer to Chicago I would have to pass emissions, but in IL, cars older than 1996 are not required to pass an emissions test.
