Default 69 Mach I...the car would not start.

Hi All,

Need some advise...

It was a pretty hot day; I came off the freeway and was at a red light. The car then suddenly died out on me. I turned the key but all I hear was a hissing noise like something just spinning; then it catches something crank three times and turn over. However, it died out right away after it starts. Eventually, I ran out of battery.

Next day, I did replace a new battery. It cranks, made the same spinning/hissing noise but still does not start. The funny thing is now when I have the ignition on off, it still crank by it self like a ghost.

What is going on??? Help!

Mike

Please provide engine details. What aftermarket parts like ignition (MSD, Pertronix, etc.), starter (standard or mini), carb, fuel pump, etc. It sounds like two different problems, but we need more details first.

The engine cranking by itself usually means the solenoid is sticking. Other than that, snot starting could be alot of things. Fuel in the carb? Spark?

Gary is right about the solenoid. I'd start there first. The hissing sound sounds like a snake. Is it a Cobra

Default 69 Mach I

Thanks everyone for the advice.

The engine is 351. Everything on it is stock as far as I know. I am new at this and still getting to know my car. Hope that will help for some more advice.
