Default 68 mustang

hey guys

i am new here looking for some info on my car. i just got a 68 mustang cope with a 289 from my dad. now i want to mod it out (of course). i was looking at the edelbrock performance kit and the performance rpm kit. which one would you recommend? it will only be driven in the summer, garaged in the winter, no racing or drag. or if you have any other ideas instead of the edelbrock kits that would be great. i already updated the ignition system. thanks

We need pics!

The edlebrock kits are nice for those of us with minimal engine knowledge. You say you updated the ignition, what exactly did you do? Also what carb is currently on the car?

I would actually recommend installing disc brakes in the front before you get going with the engine mods. They are a MUST for safety's sake.

a revised drivetrain (including brakes) makes such a huge difference. also look at wheel and tire setups. stock tires are blah.

+1 for the disk brake upgrade first. I'd recommend against the kits simply due to the lazy cam. Order the Edelbrock heads, intake carb (if needed) then call Comp Cams and tell them what you'd like. They will help you pick a suitable cam to mate with the Edelbrock stuff.

Check out Summits site as it's quite easy to navigate around..

thanks for the repleys so far guys. what i mean by a ignition is that it is updated to a mallory ignition. and it has a 500cfm edelbrock 4barrel carb on it.

+1 on disc brakes upgrade. It was one of the last upgrades on my car, after stuffing that 420hp+ 331 in there, it needed some brakes BAD.

post some pics!

i would stay away from the eddy heads, even if you dont know a whole lot about your motor stay from the kit definatly, if you want to upgrade to new heads and everything i would highly recoment the tfs tw heads, they will cost you a little more but not much and you will get much better performance and the heads will allow you to grow more as you grow with the motor and trust me you will, an ofs cam from comp or so would not be bad but you should consider talking to Jay at camshaft innovations for a custom ground camshaft that will tailered to your exact engine combo and for your exact needs, i guarantee youll be much happier with a custom cam, put an aftermarket intake and somewhere around a 600-650cfm carb and youll have yourself a quick little car, x2 on the disc brakes and other suspension mods first though! goodluck with the build and post pics!
