Default Gas Longevity

How long does gas last till it turns into that slime? I have had this gas in the tank for about one and half years. I have added a bottle of that preservative in the winter and one the other week. What are the chances it is still good?
My buddy said he started up a car with gas after it sat for 4years by just using some carb starter spray.

Yeah, that's possible, but unless you put the stabilizer in when you put the gas in, you've lost some of the effect. I have got away with murder, but a year is a problem without stabilizer. I let mine sit a few years one time, and one whiff of the fuel told me to get rid of it. I drew it all out, and pumped in new gas, even in the lines. Started and ran well.

I think pump gas starts to break down in about 8 weeks. The addition of something like "Stabil" will prolong it to about a year. The good ole "Race Fuel" will last about two years (so I've been told).

Even if it runs it's going to run like schit. It's not worth it just to save a few bucks. Dump it or try it in the lawn mower.

If its only a few gallons I would top it up with new gas and run it out. Stabilizer according to the bottle will make it last 1 year and if you double the dosage it can last up to 2 years again according to the bottle. So if you used a whole bottle you probably used too much and that small amount of gas should be well preserved.

The problem with leaving old untreated gas in a car usually causes a problem when it starts to break down inside the carb and then gums everything up in the small openings of the carb.

NICE!! The carb is rebuilt and cleaned. I could also use that carb starter spray. Haha yea I dumped the whole bottle in. Originally like a year and half ago it was empty but I put a couple gallons in to test it running. So thats whats been sitting in it this whole time. It definitely smells like gasoline though. I will give it a go I guess. Maybe put like 4 more gallons in and see how that works.
Also on this topic. My Fuel Pump is mechanical.... Should I upgrade to electric? I was looking on forum and read a lot of threads about it. But I was not sure if the people were talking about racing cars or what. Mine is just a regular driver.
