Default Oil in the exhaust?

Changed the oil in my 68 from 10w 30 to 5w 30. Running the 10w I did not have a problem, but not since I switched to a lighter oil, I am now having small flecks of what I suspect to be oil come out of the exhaust. I put my hand down there for a few seconds and it came up black. Any ideas?

That thin 5w-30 may be getting past your rings.. You should probably be running something heavier like 10w-30 or even 10w-40.. I used to run straight 40 weight in my old 302 and never had a problem.. 5w is more for smaller engines.

Like your hand was fully black or it had some specks of oil on it?

I know my inline-6 spits out oil specks, especially right when it gets fired up after sitting.

Is it ash, or oil? And are you losing any oil?

Its definitely oil. No ash its a PIA to get it off the hands. Booger that was my thought as well that the oil was getting passed the rings. It doesn't smoke at all other than when its cold, but the weather has been so nice here that it hasn't had that much of a problem. It has however, since I used the thinner oil started to cut out at around 30 mph then runs smoother at 35 and above. Could this be from the thinner oil as well?

To me it just sounds like carbon build up and then the water mixes and goes out the exhaust.
