transmission problems

Default transmission problems

ok i have a 68 6 cyl 3 speed auto and it wont shift into 3rd gear what could be the problem any help appreciated

Does it have the proper amount of fluid?

Does the fluid smell burnt in any way?

Is the kick-down on the carb working properly?

I'm thinking it's the kick-down linkage thats the problem. If the return spring is weak or missing, it could cause that.

yeah, the lever would stay down causing it to stay in 2nd, or it could be real badly adjusted.

no i didnt get it fixed taking it to the shop sometime soon once i get ever timed and the dwell set tonight well ill let ya know later
