Default Starting a 1968 Mustang GT

I am a Soldier going to be returning from Iraq in september. I have always dreamed of the mustang my dad raced when he was my age. He sold his and now I want to build one because its been what I've wanted to do forever. I need your guys advice as to what i need to get started....besides a frame lol. What do you guys recommend for the stock Mustang...other than I want to put this 351C engine in it with a 5 spd manual transmission that I have. So start listing things off what you guys think.

Well if you're putting a cleveland in a 68 are you stroking it? You'll need a long list of items to make it safe for that kind of power. Better brakes, at least rebuild the suspension and make sure you have a big enough radiator to cool the engine.

A lot people on this site will ask you for more information on what you're wanting to do with it. Racing, cruising, daily driver, etc. If you can give more information there is a ton of people on this website with a wealth of knowledge and they are all very helpful.

I am looking for it to be something to take out when the other half and I are crusing on a date or something, other than that it will sit in the barn with a cover on it. It looks like the cleveland motor i have is becoming a big hassle. I have a stock 302 from a 1989 Ford F-150 that I pulled out a long time ago. It cracked a piston a long while ago. It still runs....just bad cylinder is all.

If there is a long list of items i need well im looking get all the things i need. I found a good place to get all new body panels which was a big thing. I just need to figure out what the best place to start is.

Welcome to the forum!

Post pics of what you've got. Give a rough estimate of your budget (keeping in mind that you'll likely blow the budget).

Oh, and thank you for your service to our country!!!

What kind of frame are you talking about, these are unibody cars, no separate frame. Or are you going to gut the body and fit it to an aftermarket frame?

I bought a 68 Frame off of Ebay. It only has the cab, no doors, has both axles, no wheels or tires, has the front fenders and rear quarter panels and the frame. Thats all I know about it as of right now. My father will let me know what is going on with it
