Default Cable Clutch Issues

Hey All,

About a year ago, I did a t5 conversion with at Mustang Steve Cable. It was supper hard to shift, so I made an adjustment at the clutch fork. After some trial and error, I got it shifting well. However, in the higher gears 3, 4, 5 it seems as if the clutch is half engaged, and when I step on the gas the rpms shoot up (like my foot was lightly pressing in the clutch) and then after a few seconds the car starts to accelerate. I don't think this was an issue when it was hard to shift. Has anyone else had similar issues? Also on the mustang steve site it appears as though you can adjust the cable at the firewall- anyone know if this is the case? Any suggestions or info would be great.

Thanks in advance.

What you seem to be describing is a slipping clutch. The reason it is more noticable in the higher gears is because the lower gears allow the car to accelerate with less engine torque.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what would cause the clutch to slip? It has about 500 miles on it.

So I had a guy do the t5 swap. He was supposed to resurface the flywheel, but I have know way of knowing if he did. Would this cause a new clutch to slip?

Either a worn clutch disc or a contaminated disc would cause slipping, but if you adjusted the cable it might just be that the problem surfaces in higher gears because the throwout bearing is still engaging the Pressure Plate. It might be too tight and not allowing the bearing to release and apply full pressure to the clutch disc.

Yeah- thats what I was thinking was happening. But if I adjust it too much, I have a hard time shifting.

Does anyone else have a Mustang Steve Cable? Can it be adjusted at the firewall?

You don't want the cable adjusted too tight with preload on the bearing.
