Matt living in Iowa I would expand your search outside the state since you tend to have a few cars with rust there. I am sure there are several here that would help if you found a car close to them.

Another good site to look on is Fossilcars.com. The Mash was really good when it had craigslistings on it. I think they were going to get that worked out but not sure if it has happened or not.

If you are good with paint and interior work look for project cars that people have lost interest/money to finance and see if you can get a deal that way.

Speaking from experience my car looked good (69 Sportroof) but I will have replaced about 50% of the sheetmetal once it's done and several mechanical things that just were not done right.
So, Matt made two posts 2 years ago. Don't think he is really going to see this post....

I am on the down hill run. Right now pending money to get the new sheetmetal welded back on and put back together. Started a new job about 3 weeks ago and hoping to get it done before Christmas. I have already made my hotel reservations for the 50th Anniversary in NC. Just trying to get the car together to drive before I pay the registration fee. Regardless my wife and I are going. My brother will be going with his Shelby and John will be taking his T-67 Mustang as well. Going to convoy out to NC with a bunch of local mustang peeps.

my recent experience, in south I searched craigslist and it has several of anything. my problem was I jumped to quick and purchased a car that the vin# isnt showing on door and the one under hood is out. I have a good number and have a tag and everything I need and will drive the car for years, its just that if I had gone home and slept on it over nite I would have passed it up. I got caught up in the emotion. I have a good looking car but like 69FB said above i am beginning to replace most things to get it where I want it. So shop and look and go home and think about it. also I could have saved a 1K$ if I had done just that. The seller would have gave in I know now.
