I did I followed a torque patter...dont know which one but I would think it would be for 289s and I went over it probably 3 to 5 times before reaching specified torque

I think what Iskwezm meant was did you torque in phases. Starting out at 5lbs on the correct pattern, then 8, 10, so on...

15 ft lbs is very light.

Make sure you're torqing the bolts properly too. What I usually do is get the bolts finger tight, then when you move the torque wrench it should be one smooth, fluid motion until you hear/feel the click. Also make sure you're torqing in the correct sequence:

8,2,10,12,4,6
7,3,11,9,1,5 -->Front of engine

That said, my service manual calls for 20-22 ft lbs on the intake manifold bolts.

If you already know all of this then just ignore. The simple stuff can get the better of us sometimes though.

I have not reinstalled the intake yet..I meant last time I did the intake I followed a torque pattern and went over the pattern 3 or more times before the bolts reached 15ftlbs....The result is the mess seen in the photo on page 1.

This time I plan to use 11 or less on the torque.

I haven't decided what to do about re torquing. Im sure im not going to do it with the engine warm...Maybe ill try after a day or two cold engine.
