brake pedal sticking

brake pedal sticking
I have a 1965 coupe and the brake pedal sticks pretty often. I replaced the shoes and the springs on the front to try to fix it, but the shoes were thin anyway. so the brake pedal will stick and the brakes will stay applied, i can pull the pedal back up with my foot, or if i hit the clutch pretty hard it will come back up. so has anyone had this happened on their car before? i am thinking the pedal assy may be binding but i was just curious if anyone had this issue. thanks.

Yeah, I'd lay on your back under the dash with a bright light and look at the hinge point and where the pushrod goes through the firewall. Sounds like you have binding at the hinge, there was a plastic bushing there on my '67. Here's some pics to help you see what you're looking for/at:

I have a 4 speed manual in there now, I went ahead and ordered a set of new bushings from ch pony parts, but they are on back order. Even if that's not the isssue, I figure they have never been replaced, and it can't hurt to do the brake and clutch pedal while I'm at it. Could it be anything besides the bushings? Something with the master cylinder or wheel cylinders?

If the MC or wheel cylinders are all gunked up they can stick also, when is the last time you flushed the sysem? Just from your description sounded more like pedal. You can get rebuild kits for the wheel cylinders pretty cheap or just replace them, not all that expensive either. Just helped a friend do all 4 on his new to him '66. We found the LR drum shoes were down to metal, no pad left at all = new drum.

been a while since the brake fluid has been changed out. I think i will try that as well. the wheel cylinders are about 6 years old, but have not seen a lot of mileage since the car was done. i am guilty of letting it sit a lot.
