Getting rid of points questions

I've been looking at this kit. I'm adding an intake and 600cfm carb to my stock engine. Is this kit acceptable for this application?

These guys are trying to "upsell" you. Go down to your local "speed shop" and just get the pertronix. You can run it with your stock coil and plug wires. I think it runs like $70? I put it on my car about 10 years ago and haven't had to touch it since.( I have changed the wires last year though) Still running basic stock wires.

I installed the Duraspark setup in my fastback but I like the Pertronix setup too and have run it on several of my old points cars. It is a nifty little setup that was as reliable as an anvil on all of my installations. I even have the Pertronix setup in my 1976 Century Raven boat that is sporting a 351W.

Hi,
If your current carb is running fine, leave it in place....for now. At some point in the future, when you plan to look for more power, research how to best achieve it, wherein, you don't waste money on "gee whizz" stuff. Changing one aspect in an engine can degrade performance if other changes are not performed.
As an example, it is very popular to add dual exhausts, a dual plane intake and a 600 CFM carb as the first wave of performance enhancement. After which, one should have a solid plan as to building for the next level. The next level being, heads, cam, and increasing cubic inches.
But for now, the Pertronix is a great first step and will benefit an, otherwise, stock engine. The following is an article Mustang Monthly did on the subject.

Good Luck with your project.
