Front Sump on Mustang II Suspension with Explorer 5.0
Hey guys, whats going on. My 65's transmission is giving me problems yet again. The 200 is over powering the weak non-synchro 3 speed, it "lost" 2nd gear, and the clutch is slipping. I've posted before about this issue and replacing with a 302, but now I'm back, fed up with this motor/trans combo, got some cash, and ready for this car to be right.
Background on the car: 1965 coupe, factory manual car, factory 200 car, Rod & Custom Mustang II Front Suspension, 5 lug rear end, fuel lines for proper V8 capacity, V8 radiator.
I'm most likely going with a 96-mid 97 Explorer 5.0 with 3-bar GT40 heads. I'm gonna ditch the EFI and go with some carbed goodies (Holley 600, with a Weiand or Eldelbrock intake mani), eccentric fuel pump set up, long tubes, electric fan, and maybe a letter cam with some upgraded springs.
My first question is: Everybody is saying the late model roller 5.0s will need to be converted to a front sump pan. Is this purely to clear the cross member? Or is this for other reasons? Will the "RC-161 289-302 FORD PAN KIT" from RC motorsports (http://rcmotorsportsinc.com/rc-161-2...-ford-pan-kit/) bolt up the the 96-mid 97 Explorer 5.0 and still clear the Mustang II cross member/rack?
My next question is: What type of motor mounts are the Mustang II suspension guys using to install the roller 5.0s? Same as the early 302s? I had to get a little creative with my 200 install because no one offered motor mounts or an oil pan for my 200 to clear the Mustang II rack/cross member.
Sorry for the long post guys. I've been searching for this information for the longest time and its frustrating cause I know I'm not the only one trying to run this stuff. Thanks in advance for the help.
