1969 Speedo cable removal
Okay...what is the trick to take it off the back of the speedo?
I tried several times while upside down with my head on the clutch pedal, but was afraid to break the plastic. It does not screw off like some threads I read on this.

From behind the speed odometer, it will be a round "nut" with a brazed surface for grip. It's ment to be able for hand tighten and hand loosen. I usually take gauges front plate off and then tilt all of the gauges forward so that I can see and touch the cable easier. If you can get a pair of pliers up there, just grab on and give it a twist. Also, look at your new cable (if you have one) to see how it is made. The "nut" part is connected to the cable and turns freely. If it's been on there for a few hundred years then it most likely froze up a little.
The part entering the tranny will have a nut with a lock plate. remove those and wiggle the cable out with the speedy gear intact. If you pull too hard you can strip the cable out and leave the speedo gear in the tranny. The gear itself will have a small "C" clamp lock thing that you can remove with some needle nose pliers.
