Default Wheels/Tires

I just got a really nice set of Slot Wheels for my '66 off EBay for 55 bucks...gotta love the worlds garage sale huh? They're 14x7, and I was wondering what tire size to go with. I have a lead on a good set of 225/60 14's but would like to know what other guys are running and/or recommend. Questions, Comments, Conserns, and General Heckling will be heard now.

i have heard that early mustangs (65-66) have a problem with tires larger than 15 inches, for the fact that the fronts will not clear the spindel. I have seen many that are backspaced, but to me is an unsafe alternative unless the backspacer fits apropriatly. You can have a 14 inch tire with a larger profile, like i think a stock 66 came with 195/14, but you might get away with 215's 220's. If you do itll fill in the whellwells better but, you will then have a problem with the car botteming out. 67's on up have no problem with that because the suspension was refined, so thats all i can say for you in your case.

The 14X7 wheel with 15 inch tires will work just fine. That's what I am running on old yeller with no problem at all. Go up to the FAQ section on top, and look at the wheel and fitment charts to get a better idea of just what you need. Be sure to use the magnifying glass to blow up the chart so you can read it.

Well I looked at the chart, and it recommends 215/60 for front, and 235/60 for the back for a 14x7 wheel. However I'm really not all that hip on running two tire sizes, and I'm not sure how good a 235/60 would look. I think I'm going to settle for just running 215/60's front ans rear and see how that looks for now. Thanks for the links though Soaring theres a bunch of other questions that I hadn't even thought of yet that I got answered.

Yeah, unless you need a lot of traction as in a racing/drag situation you don't need different sized tires. Also, you can't do a tire rotation from front to rear with two different sized tires, because the back ones won't fit on the front.
